Revolutionary idea: Party marks Lafayette visit in 1825

BEAUFORT, S.C. — Beaufort is holding a party to celebrate the 190th anniversary of a visit by the Revolutionary War hero Lafayette.

Lafayette was a Frenchman who fought with George Washington during the Revolutionary War. Then almost 50 years later, he toured America as the guest of President James Monroe visiting all of the 24 states in the Union.

The Beaufort Gazette reports that trip included a stop in Beaufort in 1825.

To mark the anniversary, a band performs and there will be kids' activities at the city's Waterfront Park on Saturday evening. The celebration will be topped off with a fireworks display.
