Lt. Dan Weekend raises $70,000 for wounded vets

The second annual Lt. Dan Weekend raised $410,000 in contributions. After expenses are paid, about $70,000 will go to support wounded veterans through the Independence Fund, according to event organizers.
Part of the money will be used to purchase a four-bedroom cottage on Palm Key to be used as a retreat for veterans and their families, according to a press release.
Of the donations, $210,000 was in cash and $200,000 was in-kind from organizations that include American Airlines and the Gary Sinise Foundation. Volunteers gave a total of 12,000 hours.
