The Point is the eastern portion of downtown Beaufort and includes several blocks of pre- and post-Civil War mansions, all privately owned and lovingly restored. Tucked into narrow interlocking streets and adorned by natural foliage and centuries-old trees, this area is one of the focal points of the city's historic district and best viewed with a professional guide, either walking, by hors e-drawn carriage or bus. Additional fine homes from the era are in the western portion of town, many with unrivaled bay or marsh views.

Island tours by bus, with step-on guide, by boat or kayak also showcase the history, heritage and natural beauty of the coastal areas. Sport fishing and adventure tours also are popular year-round.

Bluffton's historic district displays beautiful historic homes, churches and the old Oyster Factory, the oldest on the East Coast. The Heyward House welcome center offers an introduction to the city's story dating from the Revolutionary War.
