The Beaufort County School District operates 15 elementary schools, four middle schools, three senior high schools, and one school for exceptional children. Each of three regional clusters -- Battery Creek, Beaufort and Hilton Head – has its own elementary, middle and high schools. A total of more than 17,500 students is enrolled annually.
The
Beaufort Academy
is an independent school with a present enrollment of approximately 375 students in grades K3 through 12.
An EC Montessori school and several church-sponsored schools are also open in Beaufort County.
Institutions of higher education are the
Technical College of the Lowcountry
and the
University of South Carolina at Beaufort
, a four-year state university which has a campus in Beaufort and in Bluffton. Also, evening classes for degree programs are offered at
Park University
and
Webster University
.
Lifelong learning is enjoyed in free, non-credit, college-level courses at the Learning Exchange of the University of South Carolina - Beaufort.
