Beaufort is noted for its historic homes with the entire downtown being on the National Register of Historic Places. Port Royal and Bluffton also are showcases for historic buildings.
The only Beaufort home regularly open to the public as a house museum is the John Mark Verdier House on Bay Street in downtown Beaufort. It is owned and managed by the Historic Beaufort Foundation. Tickets and schedules for the docent-guided tours are available daiily at the Beaufort Visitor Center.
The Cole-Heyward House in Bluffton is open daily, managed by the Bluffton Historic Society.
Home tours are scheduled in Beaufort each October and managed by the Historic Beaufort Foundation. Please view the calendar listings on this site for dates and details.
Home tours are conducted by the ECW of the Parish Church of St. Helena in April of each year. The 52nd annual tour is set for April 4, 2008, in historic downtown Beaufort. Tickets are $40 and ticket information is available from 843-524-0363. In 2009 a plantion driving tour is anticipated in addition to the downtown homes.
Holiday home tours are scheduled in December and conducted by St. Peter's Church. For information pleae contact 843-522-6510.
