Cooking lesson at Gullah Grub

32. Cooking lesson at Gullah Grub

For over 15 years, owner and chef, Bill Green, and his family have diligently prepared and served authentic and delicious Gullah meals at their local Gullah Grub restaurant. Bill always follows the Gullah rules, when it comes to serving his cuisine. The first rule is to harvest and eat in season. Each season provides a different bounty and it’s important to adhere to this rule to help protect the delicate balance of the ecosystem. The second rule is to eat locally. Not only do Bill and his wife Sara support local farmers, but they also grow their own rice, one of the first crops to make South Carolina wealthy centuries ago. Dedicated to preserving the Gullah culture and heritage, Bill and Sara teach classes to local youth about how to grow and prepare food in local Gullah tradition.
